17-06-19 Keith Haring Studio Visit
Last week I was lucky enough to attend a studio visit arraigned by the Keith Haring Foundation for ICP Community Partnership with The Mt Sinai Adolescent Health Center. Blog Haring himself set up the foundation in 1989 before he died.
“Keith Haring died of AIDS related complications at the age of 31 on February 16, 1990.”
The space is extremely impressive and the staff of the foundation could not be more friendly and welcoming. In the interests of personal privacy, I am only including images of the space.
17-06-12 Too Soon
A young woman, a Bay Area photographer I met at a photo workshop, ended her life last week. We spent two days together, at best she was a Facebook acquaintance.
I followed her career, her joys and successes on FB and Instagram. It was clear she had her demons, as do we all, but she was a vibrant and loving soul. I have been reading the love and pain expressed by her friends (again I emphasize I was a brief acquaintance, whatever pain I feel is the pain we all feel when someone dies too soon. ) Her community is mourning. I can’t imagine how her partner and family feel.
I’m not sure why I am writing this blog except that we need to make sure we celebrate our lives, other’s lives, and try to reach out and help anyone who is suffering and feeling unsure and alone. I guess it is also to suggest that the lives we see on FB etc., are not the whole story, certainly not the true story.
Goodbye MJ. Holding you in the light.
17-06-06 Moving Slow
After three weeks+ of falling asleep every few hours, being unable to walk much more than 1/4 mile at a time, really bad joint pain and stomach issues, all I know is…I don’t have mono, I don’t have Lyme, I don’t have Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, I have not suddenly developed narcolepsy. In the end all my doc could tell me was “you have/had an undetermined virus, recovering you are, don’t push yourself until you are completely back. O yeah, and go back to the gym and discover that it is like you have never been there in your life.”
Life can be a mysterious journey. Think we will show color today.

17-06-02 I’m Back?
It’s been a long time…lots of stuff going on. Work (and the lack thereof), family, health, anxiety, depression, joy, and tension, transitions and transitioning, working it out and moving on. Broken Light Collective
I have spent a lot of time working on the first expression of my new book: “Trans_Lucent v 1.0”. It is both a work in progress and a complete work. I have made 8 demo copies but… Naturally I am totally ambivalent about it.
Lots of time on the road, back and forth to Boston, went to NOLA for Jazz Fest, a not entirely successful trip down memory lane. You really can’t recreate the moments of your life and you shouldn’t make the mistake of trying. Have to remember to go and create anew. NOLA brought up lots of memories of the dead.
Took a wonderful class taught by Liam Cunningham at ICP.
Went to the Oaxaca Coast and Mexico City. It is good to be on the right side of Trump’s fantasy wall and was hard for us to return.
Spending lots of time on Cape Cod working on my parent’s place, trying to get it ship shape for the future.
Worked as a Teaching Assistant in ICP Community Partnership. Some of the most rewarding time I have spent in years.
I may actually have made some new friends! That doesn’t happen often.
Over the next few posts (which I hope will come at least every three days or so) I will be posting some of what I have been shooting.

a response to a friend suffering from ‘too much trump’ syndrome
A friend told me she was feeling discouraged. She said she was thinking about taking a break from social media — just a few days, maybe a week, maybe more. Why? Too much Trump. Too much Trump all the time. Too much Trump in too many aspects of her life. Health care? TMT. Immigration? TMT. Clean water, LGBT, equal pay, worker’s rights, renewable energy? Too much fucking Trump. She was having a really really hard time finding anything positive to focus on. The entire world was turning to shit right in front of her, and she just wanted to turn it all off.
I completely understand that sentiment, and wasn’t about to attempt to dissuade her. But I did want to offer some encouragement. “There’s a pink pussy hat on display in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London,” I told her. She said, “What?” I said, “The Victoria and Albert, the world’s largest…

This shot is from a plane as we crossed the border back into the USA (formerly the home of the brave, now apparently the home of the terrified). For those who believe in the efficacy of walls, this might be a bit distressing.
